MUSIC INFORMATION
Many members of our church are active in our wide variety of music ministries and share their gifts with us in worship. While many are called to help lead music in worship, we are also blessed when those who are in the pews sing along in witness for their love for Christ. They also work together to produce special multi-generational music programs including many or all of our music groups and guests from our congregation.
Below is a brief summary of our music opportunities. For more information about these offerings, please contact Roger Dowdy about traditional worship or Philip Tickle about contemporary worship. For more information about Youth Praise Band and Children’s Choir, please see the Youth and Children’s sections of the website.

Carillon Ringers
Our church is blessed to have five octaves of handbells! The Carillon Ringers provide special music for worship services, seasonal programs and other events. Members range from beginners to seasoned ringers. Rehearsals are on Sunday evenings 7:00 – 8:15 pm. Contact Susan Simmers for information.

Praise Band
This group of singers and instrumentalists leads worship at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Contemporary Service. The music is contemporary, uplifting and fun. Rehearsals are once a week, Thursday 7:00-9:00 p.m. Group members find joy in worshiping through music and walking with Christ. Anyone interested in joining our praise team can contact Philip Tickle, Director of Contemporary Worship and Music.

Chancel Choir
The Chancel choir leads in 11:00 a.m. worship services each Sunday. Its members also sing for special occasions throughout the church year. The music ranges from classical to contemporary. Special services of music may include plans to participate in a mass choir including community friends and other church choirs. Accompaniment for this choir often includes instruments in the orchestra as well as piano, organ, handbells, harpsichord, and sometimes guitar and drums. There are many expressions for fellowship and spiritual growth within this group. Rehearsal time is 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. on Thursday nights — no experience necessary! From mid-June through August, rehearsals are only on Sundays beginning at 10:00 am. Child care is provided. Contact Roger Dowdy for information.

You Are Invited
You are invited to add your notes to help blend the harmony in any way at River Road United Methodist Church. You are also encouraged to be a recruiter. If you hear someone singing nicely in the congregation, please invite them to join a choir of their choice. Sharing your talents will bring blessings to all as well as bring glory to God. In addition to choirs we provide opportunities for soloists and small groups of vocalists and instrumentalists. For those who are more comfortable in the pew, we strive to enhance the congregational singing experience.
