Thanks to all who have made donations for the two food pantries that we have been supporting during the pandemic. The need continues to be great. For the 20th straight week, more than a million people filed new claims for unemployment benefits last week, and the expanded benefits expired at the end of July. The maximum unemployment benefit in Virginia (without the expired enhanced federal benefits) is $378 per week, and many people get much less than the maximum. Ginter Park served 109 FAMILIES at its last distribution and Welborne served 36 FAMILIES. Below are the current needs for each pantry. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us at (804) 740-7061 for more information.
I Support the Girls collects and distributes essential items, including bras and menstrual hygiene products allowing women experiencing homelessness, impoverishment, or distress to stand tall with dignity. During September-October the River Road United Methodist Women will have a drive at RRUMC for “the Girls.” A donation box will be on the side porch. For more information, click here.
Specific items to donate:
– Bras (new or gently used and clean) of all sizes (large also needed)
– Individually sealed sanitary napkins (overnight maxi pads with wings most needed)
– Individually sealed tampons
– Financial donation
Welborne, which was added as a supported organization during the pandemic when Ginter Park was closed, has a wider variety of needs. URGENTLY NEEDED: Spaghetti Sauce, Tomato Soup, Cereal (Cheerios, Raisin Bran), Canned Fruit, Grape Jelly, Toilet Paper. SHELF-STABLE ADDITIONAL STAPLES THAT ARE ALWAYS NEEDED: Canned Chicken, Canned Green Beans, Canned Corn, Canned Carrots, Rice, Instant Mashed Potatoes, Canned Tuna, Pasta, Peanut Butter, Mac-n-Cheese, Individually Packaged Snacks (fruit snacks, crackers, nuts, granola bars, etc), Canned Pastas (Ravioli, Spaghetti O’s, etc), Individual Hot Cereal (oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc), Canned or Powdered Milk, Cookies.
We are deeply grateful for your continued donations. This is God’s work. Blessings to you for sharing what God has given you with those in need. “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40.
