Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Arms.

What We Do

Our Approach at Open Arms Christian Preschool is to encourage a positive outlook on learning for a lifetime.  Recognizing the parent as a child’s first and most important teacher, we seek to partner with parents by providing education and personal support during this significant time of child development.  Our program involves parent participation and communication using the preschool family communication APP (ProCare) throughout the school year.  The Programs are designed to provide children a small engaging environment where they know their friends, teachers, and the daily routine developed in a consistent schedule.

Teachers at OACP are degreed and experienced in the Early Education field to provide a learning environment consistent with Accreditation and RRUMC requirements.  Teachers develop weekly lessons around Virginia’s Early Learning & Development Standards (Birth – 5 years) to reach developmental milestones as children advance.  Enrolled families will receive weekly classroom information from their child’s teacher and be able to communicate directly with their child’s teacher (via the Preschool APP) regarding their child’s development.

Areas of Development Standards Birth - 5 years:

  • Approaches to Play & Learning
  • Social & Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language, and Literacy Development
  • Health and Physical Development
  • Cognitive Development

Guiding children day to day, teaching them to build their self-help skills, independence, and fine motor skills are part of the daily experience.

The classrooms are theme-integrated with structured learning centers throughout, allowing children to move, choose and develop at their own pace.  As themes change throughout the school year the classroom learning centers are enhanced with different books, toys, puzzles, manipulatives, art supplies, and more to allow the children to explore and learn with a change of activities.  Guiding children day to day, teaching them to build their self-help skills, independence, and fine motor skills are part of the daily experience.  The early years are a wonderful time of discovery.  Not only is it a time of accelerated learning it is a time when children develop their attitudes about learning.  The habits and patterns established during these years prepare a child to navigate opportunities and obstacles in the future.
